You can wash the areas with cold water, but it won't help. Heat doesn't cause you to tan. It's the UV radiation from the sun that causes a person to tan or sunburn.

It's worth a try. I use to do this before when I would have to walk home from school. My face tanned extremely easily in comparison to my neck and other exposed parts that I started searching tanning preventions and read this somewhere. In any case, I thought it helped. Was soothing anyhow.

i dont know about just chilled water but wiping your face with cotton wool soaked in vinegar and then washng it off with cold water immediately after spending time in the sun definitely helps...

no it will lead to sudden shrinkage of skin due to this temperature difference which may lead to wrinkles. so don;t try it.
