Stephen Robert Irwin (22 February 1962 – 4 September 2006), also known as the Crocodile Hunter, was an Australian naturalist, wildlife expert and television personality, best known for the television program The Crocodile Hunter, an unconventional wildlife documentary series broadcast worldwide and co-hosted with his wife Terri. He was also owner and operator of Australia Zoo, in Beerwah, Queensland, which was established by his wife along with his long time friend William Rollo.

Irwin parlayed youthful experience as a crocodile trapper into an international television career, a feature film, and a series of accolades in Australia for his promotion of tourism and environmental awareness. Despite a macho image as a wrangler of large, dangerous animals, Irwin was a committed conservationist. Nevertheless, his cavalier showman's approach also drew criticism, especially an incident when he held his baby boy as he fed crocodiles at his zoo.

On September 4, 2006, Irwin died whilst filming underwater documentary footage, when a stingray extended its barb into his chest. [1]

Steve Irwin was the Crocodile Hunter, an Australlian zoologist who had a TV show where he would wrestles alligators, handle poisonous snakes, and generally interact with wildlife. He would educate people about wildlife and conservation and how important it is. He was a personal hero of mine. He had great heart. (no pun). A man of real character, courage, and devotion. I've seen those guys on 'Jack@ss' do some crazy stuff, but they're just freaks. Steve did very crazy things, like sneak up on Komodo dragons and pet them, handle poisonous wild snakes, and wrestle crocs, but he had a purpose. I remember episodes, years back, when Steve was still in mourning over the death of his dog that he grew up with. I remember an episode before they were parents when Steve and Terri, his wife, were having an arguement and kinda snapping at each other. True reality TV. I used to joke when people would ask 'who is god?', and I would answer Steve Irwin. He was a real man and a hero of mine.
