The sky is actually clear!
The blue illusion is the refraction of the light from the oceans off our atmosphere.
Therefore, no light, you can see thru it all!! And blackness of space!

Sky 's blue is due to reflection of light to earth from the sun.
When in space there s no reflection and ghence black.

You'll learn it in highschool... I assume you're still elementary, am I right? But for your sake, I'd give you a brief explanation.
The blue you see in the sky is just the effect of the curving of the light rays projected by the sun with the presence of the earth's atmosphere but ONLY by day. You notice the sky will change into red at dawn or dusk, it's because the angle of the sun's rays to the earth changes according to the time of the day. I hope I'm right...

Hi,Markaod.
Blue sky is caused by the Rayleigh scattering effect.
Light travels in waves,at various frequencies- the spectrum that makes up white light has a range of frequencies;red is the lowest, and violet is the highest, and more powerful. (The Ultra-violet gives you sunburn).
When light hits the molecules in the atmosphere, the higher frequencies get absorbed and reflected- in our atmospheres' case, blue is reflected the most.
Space is airless,so nothing from the spectrum gets bounced around.
Hope that helps.
Have a blue-sky day!

You have limited eyesight. If you have super eyesight and see past the blue in the sky then you will see the black of space. Suggest you change your contacts.

Water vapor in the air bends light from the sun like a glass prism, so you see the blue end in the middle of the day, but at sunrise and sunset you see the other colors.
Space is mostly a vacuum so there is nothing to bend the light from the sun.

because the sky reflects the blue sea, in space there isnt much to reflect sertanly not a giant ocean coloured blue.
so black is all thats there, mostly to reflect.
lets not forget that blackness itself could be somthing not discovered yet.

Never been to space.
However, from sunlight we get refracted light via water vapour and atmospheric gases. From this we get an array of colour. In short the sky is blue, not because 'God' says its so.

well i would have to say because the major part of our earths surface is water, that reflects in the atmosphere, i would say that it is because of the light bending and prism effects and so on so forth, but why then is mars sky not blue?

because the particles in the air refelct the light like a prism yet in space there is no air. asked that 1 in geography lol.
