i will never forget the image of steve irwin talking to the camera while sharks were in a feeding frenzy all around him while he stood in the water...the guy was a crazy kook but he was fascinating, funny and very entertaining...i kind of felt one day his luck would run out the way he took risks dealing with wildlife but i would never have guessed it would take a stingray to be the culprit....my condolences to his friends and family....he was one of a kind and his legacy will continue as his shows run on animal planet

He died while doing something he is passionate about!

Did you know that this was only the third known fatality in Australian history from a stingray!!! And the only one ever captured on film??!! This is a one-in-a-million shocking and sudden incident! That is why you are trying to come to terms with the whole incident as well as me and million of other shocked people! It is shocking and distressing!!!

The stingray felt threatened because he was close to it! As a defenseive mechanism, it threw up its tail and it caught him in the chest. Steve Irwin tried pulling out the barb before going unconscious... but then he died of cardiac arrest!!! His aorta was punctured... that is why he had non-survivable injuries.

God rests his soul!

If you play with fire.........

My heart goes out to his Wife and children... What a loss..
I watched the news yesterday even David Bellamy was in tears.. Steve was a huge character and a wonderful person and will be missed by millions. I hope they have a national day of mourning in Australia.

Appreciating someone like Steve Irwin is like enjoying fireworks. They have to be lit on fire and then explode before you can experience them properly.

A firework that doesn't explode is a dud. Steve Irwin wasn't.
He lived and died as he should - with flair (no pun intended)!
