As an atheist and student of ancient history, I read the bible for pleasure. My favourite part was "the song of songs", the song of Solomon (or maybe the story about Job?). What about you?

For comedy value I like the story in the Old Testament where a donkey talks because his master won't listen, all quite random and surreal (as is a lot of the Bible in fact!)...But my favourite is where Jesus prays for his disciples shortly before he is killed. It's an amazingly deep passage about how God and people can be united, and this harmony and friendship flows out into love for others. John chapters 15-17.

As a story, I really like the Joseph & the rest of the sons of Jacob story... for some reason. I have not read the full thing thoroughly enough to be able to point a passage, although "to everything there is a season" appeals to me too.

The new testament I enjoy for the message (of Love thy neighbour - that one surely _can_ appeal to good people of all religious persuasions). I mean _can_, not _should_ - I just think the opposite is so unproductive...

I am an atheist as well but I like the story when King Salomon ( I think) told the 2 women fighting over the baby to cut it in 1/2...then they could tell who was the real mother.

Mine would be the Wedding feast at Caana.
Not for any clever reason or because I'm a drinker, but because I think it demonstrates human faith and trust. The belief that you can achieve anything is paramount to success and freedom from
the feeling of in-adequacy.
