Despite what all the politicians are saying, I don't feel that the economy is very good at the moment.

Plus as an older person, you would probably expect a higher starting wage due to your experience. It seems companies are more concerned with costs than results. I have seen many manufacturing jobs in my company get shipped overseas to "best cost producers". Then there are pallets of work getting shipped HERE because they need to be sorted for defects. Makes no sense to me.

Good Luck in you job search

It depends on the company. For many, the definition of permanent means they'll be looking for someone who can put in 5+ years of service....and if you're close to retirement age then of course they will be put off.

I don't think it's necessarily ageist......if you're up against several other good candidates then it's fair enough if they think a younger person would be more suitable. At the least, there is more chance of longevity of service, and potential for a younger person with 30+ working years ahead of them to progress and be valuable within the company.

Unfortunately in most places you're too old to employ when you're 35!

A lot of companies prefer younger people, straight out of school etc, because they can pay them less, no other reason.

The older you are, the more 'experience' you have, as well as a possible family, and therefore you'd be asking for more money.

Also, although they never say so, the older you are the more of a health liability you are, so the closer you are to retirement age, the less likely they are to employ you full time.

Believe me, I know a lot of people who have just passed 30 and can't get jobs!

Personally, i'd say no you aren't too old to find permanent work..
Elder people are more reliable, trustworthy and are harder working and the biggi is! you don't have family commitments the same as you do when you're younger. Some older people are fitter than the younger ones too..
I agree with what you're thinking though..'Most' although not 'all' employers dismiss you as and toss you aside as though you're ready for the scrap heap.

All the Superstores now take on older people, they rightly think they are more reliable, harder working, well mannered and so on.B&Q, ASDA,TESCO, have this policy so do many others. You seem to be more qualified than most. You wouldn't be looking for a job on the check out tills, but go along and see they may also have jobs in admin its worth a try. Good luck.

Absolutely not! I would trust my Dad for reliability and knowledge in his field before anyone my own age! Younger people have had it easier, and many expect a lot more, and expect to give a lot less in employment

I don't have a business, but if I did I would offer a job on the basis of experience and reliability.....Not age!

Don't give up trying, and Good Luck!!

You're never told old to find permanent work, a lot of companies have relaxed their rules on age limits

Any way good look with your job hunting, I'm sure you will find something suitable soon :)

With the new law coming into force that stops companies rejecting candidates because of their age you soon won't have a problem!

Best suggestion is not to put your date of birth on your CV and register with some agencies :-)

Good Luck!

Who knows you're 58? Nobosy knows when you were really born ecept you. Give yourself a makeover and lie about your age saying you are 48 but you have had a hard life!
