Wouldn't it be better just to forget it ever happened and hope that we can now all live together in peace? If we stopped labelling people "terrorists", maybe they will stop blowing us up.

Shouldn't we just pretend it never happened and try to all live together in peace?
Maybe if we give the terrorists, and the people who support the terrorists, what they want, they will leave us alone.

People have become "Islamaphobic" because of the terrorist atrocities of 9/11 and 7/7 and the recent threats from muslim fanatics to blow up transatlantic planes from the UK to the US. Not from marking the 5th anniversary of 9/11. In the UK we have Remembrance Day to commemorate the loss of thousands of soldiers in WW2 and you don't see the Germans making a fuss. It just makes me feel like we should all get together not only to remember the dead but to eradicate this evil amongst us. Can you blame people for being Islamaphobic though because I don't? It's up to decent muslims which I know 99% are, to weed out these extremists amongst them and show the world they do care. I do think it's worrying though that there are thousands in the UK who hate the West and they have just found an al-qaeda training camp in the south of england. Muslims need to do something now to help before it's too late.

I think for a start UK and USA in general have a very different opinion of 9/11 and Islamic people. Anniversaries are generally the thing to do but I do question the reason for the anniversary is it because of the people (as it should be) or is political which I think is more likely!

Of course the anniversary should be marked to comemorate (sp?) those who died.
The 'feature' documentaries on TV re-living the event by witness testimony are blatant propaganda thinly disguised as memorial.
All that would be respectfully required from the media is some news items (tomorrow only) showing some of the services that will be taking place.
The whole 'war on terror' is being fought more in the media than anywhere else. If the whole world knew the truth (I'm not claiming to btw) nobody would be fighting.

I dont think the USA especially will ever forget 9/11 marking the anniversary is important for thousands of people who lost friends and family many people visit graves of loved ones on the day they died to place flowers surley this is the same on a much larger scale

No, when we hand out Poppy's on Remembrance Day it's not because we hate the Germans or the Japanese. Many in those countries observe the tradition also.
Forgive but never forget.
Forgive those things that no hate can change, and remember those who died, and why. Remember also the political and social lessons from that time. Lessons paid for at enormous cost.

I definitely think a little more discretion could be used. but we live in the age of terror. read Naom Chomsky's book, 'Media Control'. If we have nothing to fear, no monster to hide from, there would be mayhem for the world leaders.
The people who were murdered on 9/11 must be remembered, but all the attention given to the anniversary is not as well-meaning as it seems, in my opinion...

This event should never be forgotten. The recent documentaries on the telly ( UK ) was a fascinating insight in to the people who were involved in the rescue operations, i have enormous respect for the fire departments even more so after the documentaries.

No its a way of remember all of those people who lost there lives and is a sign of respect for them and there families, its not trying to increase trouble or help raise its head again its just out of respect and allows people from all over the world to remember the people they lost in this tragic event.

If your not careful and keep avoiding things in case it upsets another culture you end up unable to move or do anything. In this country (UK), we go to extremes schools have to be careful of Easter and Christmas, they call Christmas, Winter festival and can't have a Christmas dinner, in case it upsets the Muslims. and there is the case of flying the St. George cross or the union jack. it might upset the Asians. Ain't we getting silly.
