I am not a Nigerian, but I have been working in Nigeria for quite some time now. Basically Nigerians are nice people. But they always look for easy & unhealthy ways of earning money. They love lavish life style. They love to own the best car even though they can't afford to fill a gallon of gas.
Even though it has enough oil resources, people in power are most corrupt & have done nothing much for the people. Most Nigerians live in poverty without access to drinking water, electricity, education & health facilities. Unemployment & AIDS are on the rise.

Most people follow what they hear or see in media blindly. It is true that few Nigerians are devious but they cannot be used to generalise a country.
The problem I see is stupidty on the part of the people who are scammed. You have to be really greedy to fall for these scams. There was a scam in which an american lady lost her life savings in an effort to get the stashed millions of a former Nigerian dictator. What she did not remember is that this money she wanted a peice of was stolen from the state. I doubt if she would have tried to aid someone launder loot stolen from Jews in WWII. Mosad (isreali intelligence would be all over her).
This brings me to the reason why there are so many scams because there are too many greedy suckers. Every inch of the scams are illegal so why engage in them in the first place?
GREED & STUPIDITY : thats why

Nigeria is regarded as the most corrupt country on earth. In a country with extraordinary natural resources a good proportion of the population are poor and public facilities are often very run down: it resembles Brazil in this respect. Much foreign aid is know to disappear in Nigeria.
As individuals, the Nigerians I have met have often been extremely pleasant and honest.
Nigerians are usually very open about how corrupt their country is and how low the standards among public officals are.

I think you are doing the right thing. These types of things happen in the U.S., as well. People know that nobody wants to be labeled "racist", so they pretend that anyone who wants to take legal action against immigrant criminals are racist. Some people may be racist and will be quick to arrest immigrants, even if there is little proof that they committed the crime, but many people truly are victims of a crime and they simply want justice. 1. No. Selling illegal merchandise is NOT "finding an occupation". If immigrants are above the law, then your nation will become a hub for drug lords, gangs, and all kinds of shady businesses. 2. If a crime is committed, then it's the police's duty to intervene regardless of who committed the crime. 3. It is up to each individual however, I don't think they should be pressured into dropping lawsuits against immigrants. Also, more serious crimes must be dealt with in court. 4. Those who suffer significant damage must also file suit and press charges. Otherwise, they'll have to pay for a lot of damages that they didn't cause. 5. Of course not. It is not "charity" or "humanity" when people are breaking the law. Perhaps Greece needs a better way to prepare immigrants to become part of Greek society, but elimminating laws for immigrants is not the answer.

I do believe that many internet scams are based in Nigeria. This has been well-reported by the media. However, I realize that the number of Nigerians who are scam artists represents only a tiny portion of Nigerians. I know that there are many people of God in Nigeria.

i have known of two nigerians in my life. the first used to work construction with me when i was a teen(he was attending college at nc. a& t state university). he was a real cool guy from what i can tell. the second was a proffessional football player named christian okoye (the nigerian nightmare). he also seemed like a nice fellow and, when he retired, started coaching high school football in california. i have never heard anything detrimental about nigerians.

Nigerians aren't fraudsters, i think your search should be towards all the greedy people that want to do cheap and illegitimate business with them (Nigeria is an oil rich country - 6th or 7th largest producer in the world). They eventually get bumped off, then the shout out they have been defrauded which to my own opinion serves them right!

People think that because most of the recent spam emails asking for money etc have 'supposedly' come from people in Nigeria .. its just a few thieves giving the rest of the country a bad name so dont worry about it.
Personally I could care less where you come from as long as you are a nice person.

russia nigeria england holland. the fallback with the nigerian scammers or other african scammers is legitimate charities are being avoided by people who used to offer help online. the same goes for other online charities i won't go near any of them because a small number of thieving scumbags will copy charities websites and gather donation details to mirror the contribution pages

Can't say I've got any opinion on Nigerian people- it's never crossed my mind. I'm sure they are no better or worse than anyone else.
