According to lazslo's hierarchy of needs (which I agree with) material needs come first.
This is only to the extent that I see food, clothing, housing etc. most important. Only when your basic material necesities are catered for, may you search of other fulfilment.
In the modern sense, I think that an excess of spiritual value is much more heathy than an excess of material wealth.

In the larger scheme of things, how you live your life and treat others is the most important. When you going to die, you wish you were a better person not that you had a better car, house etc. Material things no longer matter.

Can one live without both these days, very difficult. But I do think that we should become more spiritual and I do not mean in the religious sense of the word, but within ourselves. I think that this is lacking within our western society.

Spiritual values before material for me. Beacause my spiritual life makes the material worthwhile.And materials, anyone cud loose.But the spirituals there wen one needs i. Lol ino wat i mean.
