(wow, some people here seem to be very confused by this!)
A region free DVD movie will play on any DVD player, even if the DVD player has a specific region.
A region free DVD player will play any DVD movie, even if the DVD movie has a specific region.
The only time you will have problems is if BOTH player AND movie have a specific region (for example the player is region 2 and the movie is region 1 - then they would be incompatible)
However most DVD players can be made region free, even if they had a specific region when you bought them. This tends to be because companies save money by building all their players at once, so they are physically the same even if they are to be sold in different countries, then the region is set on the player. So it's only a matter of software, not hardware, and the player can easily be changed to any region, or made region free, simply by typing in a code with the remote control. Just google for "'your dvd player make/model number here' region free code" and you should find it. That's the best thing to do - have a region free player so you don't need to mind what movies you're buying!

In four words...yes yes yes yes
ps I forgot to say yes :-)
Was wondering why you asked...have you had probs playing a region free DVD on a region 2 player?..if so & you have burned the DVD yourself, then all I can think of is that there was an error in the burning or it has been burnt to a DVD which is not suported by your player..some only support DVD+R some only DVD-R (& some support both)...It's the same with DVD RWs

region free? by that do you mean multi-region? if the dvd is multi-region it actually means yes you can play it. if however, it is region 3, and you have a region 2 dvd player then the answer is no.

That is the point of "region free". So long as it isn't an ancient DVD player, it shouldn't have a problem.

YES of course, region free, means that the disc is free of regional coding and will therefore play in any player, whatever the players code is.

You need to hack it first to enable it to be region free. Try putting something like "(the model and name of your DVD) region hack" into goole. It's fairly easy and can usually be done via the remote that came with it. Check the comments for any downside to this though.
