usually when someone knows the answer, his mind races faster than his fingers on the keyboard, so he is not able to completely explain. Another theory could be that the person knows so much that he doesnt know where to start and how much background to go into.

What do you mean? That they give short replies? Well, usually you can mail them and ask them to give a more complete, response, information, and reasons, etc. Most of the time, people just do not have time, or they are impatient, or they think that a quick reply will suffice, whatever, you do have a good point.

Because they want their response to be the first one to show up. For example if I type this but someone else says almost the exact same thing just worded differently, then my response looks stupid because all I did was restate what someone else already said.
