Let me name some living today:
Noam Chomsky, Nelson Mandela, Jimmy Carter, Fidel Castro, Aung Sau Su Kyi, Chandrika Kumaratunga, the Dalai Lama, Mikhail Gorbachev Muthaiah Muralitharan, and Benazir Bhutto.
One way or another, all these people have striven honestly and courageously for what they felt to be right. With the possible exception of Fidel, they have been non-violent. Some have failed, owing to no fault of theirs, others have succeeded only in part, about yet others we await the verdict of History. Yet, they all command respect.
