I've been trying to update my AVG software for the past 95 days (OK, I was away for 49 days, but I still want help)! I'm currently running on AVG version 7.0.394, but I'm having trouble updating. I'm connected to the internet, but it keeps on saying 'Update was unsuccessful'. The program isn't blocked by my firewall, either, so why is this happening?

I had this problem last year. I was tempted to go out & buy Norton or similar, then I read something in a PC mag which said just download the latest AVG application from the website & in installing it the 'old/broken' one will be removed. Did it. Its been fine since even thou I left it for a month while I went home.I use a combination of AVG/Zone Alarm/Spybot & Ad-Aware for security along with Simple File Shredder to overwrite all deleted files & clean the free space on my PC.

Well you see...u urself was not using ur computer for last 49 days. In those 49 days there are lots of update has been given by AVG & therefore the update file should be betweeb 2.5-3 MB (May be more than that). If you have a dial up connection then it's obvious possible that u were unable to update ur Antivirus (bcoz update will take atleast 15-20 min).

What i can suggest u that....simply download a new version of AVG (free) .

That's all.
Best of luck.

Go to the AVG website, download the latest free version, uninstall your old version and then install the newer one.

I've used AVG for years now and have never had a problem.

Don't let anyone on here talk you into downloading something else that might end up costing you money, this place is getting hyjacked by companies selling their own goods.

AVG ii highly recommended by loads of pc magazines and works well for something that's free.

Instead of screwing with it, Uninstall it and download the latest version. That would have taken a few minutes and you have been screwing with this for a month and a half. Use that gray matter God gave you for something other than a counterweight to keep your balance when you walk.

I don't know about that - I have no problem updating, I just tried successfully the day before yesterday... I think the latest edition is 7.1.405, why don't you try downloading (it should work without further registering) and installing that, just in case?

The current version is> 7.1.405

So if you have access to the internet, simply download the new version to your desktop.

After that>uninstall your present version>reboot>install new version(although you could probaly instal the new version over the old).

hope this helps
