preferably rock!but any kind really, im pretty open minded! i live in london so anywhere in the city, would prefer somewhere cheap-dont care if its dingy or a bit of a s**thole-its all about the music!!

There is so many places!!! I usually end up at the following though:
Dublin Castle (Camden)
Bull & Gate (Kentish Town)
Camden Underworld
Water Rats (Kings Cross area)
93 Feet East (Brick Lane)
the Spitz (Spitlefield Market) - amount of times i've got lost trying to find the spitz!
Barfly (Camden)
Bar Academy (Islington) - thats quite a nice venue, not the usual dives.
The Jamm (Brixton)
Purple Turtle (Right opposite Koko in Mornington Cresent)
You've also got places like the metro, 100 club, Hope & Anchor but i've not been to those places yet - give me time.
Generally, expect to pay around a fiver to get in, unless you can make friends with people in the band and blag the guestlist (Not that I do that...!)
Keep an eye on gig listings in NME, get your bum on myspace and find the bands, then you can just go to where ever the good bands are playing and end up in some really random places, thats the best way to discover good music venues.

Theres an american band called Buckcherry playing in Camden town @ the Underworld in a week or two they are realy rocking, check them out, about £15 a ticket and is quite a popular venue for rock music and new bands.

The Good Ship in Kilburn has bands on most nights and is generally about a fiver for four bands.
Also the Barfly in Camden is really good for live music i have seen several bands there new and known.
