Install a new one. Linux is free and extremely customizeable. Whether you want to try it or stick with Winblows, all you need to do is put the cd in the cd player and go into the bios to tell the computer to boot to cdrom, not hard drive. Then the next time the computer powers on it will run the installation utility and along the way it will format your drive and prepare it for your new installation.

BY Formatting the hard disk, if there is only one OS in the computer. But that will remove everything from your computer's hard disk. You should consider to copy/ backup all valuable information to a cd/dvd before contemplating to do that.

But if you are looking for removing a single OS from a dual boot or multiboot installation. You should ask specific questions by providing details.

Formatting a drive or removing the existing partitions and recreating them will effectively remove the operating system. Windows Setup allows you to do this as does most distributions of Linux.
