i've transcended cynicism. nobody's going to change so i've just gone with the flow. life's gotten a lot better

cynicism should be a faze (as a state of mind). it is gained through knowledge but eventually you're meant to realise that it achieves nothing

Some people use 'sarcasm/cynicism' as tools to protect themselves from their own fears. These people convey an aura of cleverness, some a dark humour, others are downright ignorant. The common thread here is the need to keep a certain distance between themselves and others.
To answer your question, I don't think that 'sarcasm/cynicism' are born specifically from knowledge gained or from ignorance but those elements are there along with many others.
Hope to be helpful..Very thought provoking question..Thanks!

Well they do say that it's the lowest form of intelligence.
And yet it's the highest form of whit.
If your witty then surely your fairly intelligent.
I would say that it's ignorance per-say, but merely the way certain areas of society has evolved. And due to that it has become a large part of general conversation and knowledge.

I honestly think that sarcasm and cynicism is humorous and can be quite creative with the individual.
But can also be misunderstood as bad humour and critical comments.
So it depends on the individuals that it is directed at on how they take it.

I can understand cynicism when I think about it, but sarcasm is usually the result of other unpleasant emotions, ignorance as you said, jealousy, feeling sorry for oneself like harddone by. Its not clever and certainly not funny. I actually now feel sorry for all those sarcastic bastards, because they never seem to have fun or friends and no wonder. You don't have to be like this to be cool. Best ignored. Luv Camilla who has had plenty experience with pricks like that. xx

Sarcasm is often the result of ignorance & small-mindedness,...
Cynicism is the result of many years of realistic observation & understanding.

It's a combination of both, just because you possess much knowledge has nothing to do with whether you are ignorant or not. I come across that kind of thing everyday in my life.
