It's a two-way street, or, more nearly, a two-way cycle. The media can't be the only ones to blame. They do market studies and find out what people are watching, then they give us more and more of the same. But our values are shaped by what we watch, too, and so, the more we see (and talk about) the crap on tv, the more we find ourselves adjusting to it.

There's an old story about an NBC executive who said, "For most people, it's never a matter of whether to watch TV, but only what to watch." In that case, even if TV is completely filled with crap, people will watch something. I reckon that's just about true, unfortunately. So, I wish the networks would think about trying to lift the game. Quality programming doesn't NEED to cost too much.

The Media feeds Us with more than just Values. Watch the News, Pittbull eats Baby, Killer Bees on the march. The Media wants us all Feeling scared. They are Scaring the Popululation into Submission. Obey, Submit,Conform, Abide the Rules.
The Media in European Countries work a lot Different than in the U.s. They are only allowed Objective Reports. They do not have these Killer Headlines. I lived in Germany for 20 years. After watching the News over here, I gave up watching tv.

It's both. In a really free, capitalistic environment, the media will take the cue form us on how much cr*p we tolerate while at the same time will try to subversively shape our values for political and economic reasons.

But from where I come from, the media help shapes the values the government wants of the populace.

What I know is, who controls the media will shape the ideology of the society.

Values? I got a coupon here for $1.00 off my next pizza.

That's a good value, right? Not influenced by the media at all.

because the person was there to create the media, it clearly reflects the depth of decadence our hearts are filled with, which is exactly what Jesus said it was He said in the gospel of Matthew "By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit."
So the Son of God confirms that a society that supports Love forgiveness and general goodness and with that justice would have these fruits of their labor. But we see the immorality and selfishness of our society condemning in it's produce. Which is shown in another Truth God gives "Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:
" 'These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
7They worship me in vain;
their teachings are but rules taught by men."
we all claim to believe in some sort of God, whether we call it some impersonal force or Fate, But there is only one God and He because of His great patience to see as many be saved and come to Him as possible allows our wicked generation to continue on as "The Lord does not wish that any should Perish"
but Because The Father is a just God, He must punish murderers and rapists and theives and liars and adulterers, but He is also merciful in that He sent His Son to pay the Fine to take the punishment for our sins upon Himself so that we could be free in Him, Jesus the Christ.

God bless and guide you in and with great Love.

They create a very false impression of the world because it is only their version of reality you see, so you dont know if everyone else thinks or acts the same. Its like watching the brady bunch and wondering if that is what family life should be like and am I the odd one out?

They feed us values. I personally take great exception to some journalist hack telling me that I should be outraged by this or that. If I feel outraged by something, it's because I feel it, not because I'm being told to do so.

They are giving us what they assume we want. But in the end its really our fault for watching the stuff and making them think its what we like to pay and watch. That is why they create summer bloackbusters etc.
