The first personal computer is highly debated. The FIRST FIRST personal computer might be the Kenbak-1. Though there weren't many made and wasn't microprocessor driven. There were many kits afterwards, but the first mass marketed kit was the MITS Altair 8800. There were sold as kits as well as fully assembled. If you take many more steps forwards, there is the Apple-1. And if you are looking for highly popular, the Apple-II and IBM 5150.

I remember the Commodore 64 and the Tandy 1000. These were some of the first readily available ones in the first days of home computing.
