If manual transmission, check the clutch or a bent shift fork.If it's an automatic (depending on the year) check the fluid level, filter, transmission modulator and torque converter.

Possible Low Fluid Level, also cloggred transmission filter. I,m not a mechanic, but actually had this happen to me years ago. Hope this helps.
