I am an Indian, majority of the problems faced by South Asia could be resolved by this merger. The conflict is driven by fundamentalism and ego on both sides. I feel that India may not derive anything major out of this merger and Pakistan can benefit a lot. Pakistan may get economic prosperity but India gets peace and the region as well as the world gets stability. Why the leadership do not provide solutions and harping on the problems only? It's not the religion that causes heartburn but the jealousness on both countries leadership about other country's well being.

Some of the answers were not thought thru', some were written in anger. More than 50 years past, blaming history not going to alter the present. "Whatever" raised questions that were not existent before Partition and answers to those issues can be found. This question is to provoke thoughts among the two neighbours and to invite ideas from others and not to create any aspersions on anyone.
Some one said "Solutions are another dimension to the problem". After all these issues are all man made and I am sure better solutions exist in this world.
Still in this globalised world, we humans talking about territories and fighting to retain or capture it and behave worser than animals. After all animals protect its territory only to ensure its food supply and create its generation.
As a citizen of a country, why many not thinking for the betterment of their country and instead supporting conflicts that brings damage to them, neighbours and rest of the world?

Wake up and join the rest of us in the real world. Pakistan and India will NEVER merge to form one state, that's just a rediculous idea.
I blame Britain for this problem. If the British hadn't just left in 1947 without helping India and Pakistan agree on certain things, the region would be a lot more peaceful and potentially more prosperous.

I dont know if india and pakistan can merge or not but one thing i am sure is majority of ppl in india and pakistan dont care about the politics they want to live in peace, I think both countries should work for each other if they cant merge atleast they should live in peace. I am in pakistan and when ever any indian came to my country i see him as a brother no matter he is hindu or muslim so why cant our politicians see the same way.

It is the need of hour - divided we are all failing. It will take some time to settle but for generations to come it would be an excellent platform to flourish and prosper. Religion is insignificant when it comes to living happily and with means for happiness. It was always a foolish idea to divide this beautiful country and create hate amongst people living together for generations. There cannot be anything more foolish than to divide a country on the directions of outsiders which Indian leaders did. let's start a mission to unite this great country and live happily. Many problems will solve automatically - though it may be true that worlds powers will feel the heat. UNITED WE STAND and UNITED WE PROSPER

dude why do you think there was a partition? why do you think the muslim leader did not want to live in a united india as concieved by gandhi and nehru?
there were a lot of racial, ethnic and communal riots all over india targetting the muslim and no one can deny that.. an attempted muslim genocide in pujab can not be denied either.. those trains full of dead bodies of migrants to pakistan can not be denied.. such hatred was there for the muslims among the natives of 'hindustan'
now considering your idea, even if there is some sort of united india again who will guarantee the muslims of equal rights in administrative, politicial, social and educational fields? even if there is a constitutional ammendment and constitutions are man-made rules that can be changed any time...
considering that such a far-fetched thing happens.. who will guarantee that an almost impending repeatition of histroy wont happen? who will guarantee that the events of the 1940's wont happen after 50 or 60 years of compromises?!
thats an impossibility,... the muslims and hindus are two extremely different civilizations by all means!
going for a united india would make a mockery of the Two Nation Theory of siry syed ahmed khan and allama mohammad iqabl! this would be insane.. and outrage if u ask me!

WELL I'm an Indian too....and i don't think merging Pakistan and India is a possibility...and even if it is ....I'll oppose it very strongly....because...Pakistan is full of power hungry violent killers....and i would rather have some of them come to India and be handled by the indian army...than the whole lot of them. It ain't gonna bring peace...it will create more problems. Pakistan is the GOD FORSAKEN land of today. Leave it to the paki's. Only pigs can live in a pigstile

B4 suggesting any such ideas, u shud critically analyse its feasibility & repercussions. U've 2 b practical not idealistic.
The merger wud have a a gr8 impact on the world-economies & the political community besides the respective allies.
Have u given a thought 2 the following-
1) Wat wud the new country b called?
2) Wat about the new Constitution?
3) Wat wud b the National Anthem?
4) Wat wud b the national language?(India-Hindi & Pak-Urdu)
5) Wat about the religion?( India is a secular country & Pak is Islamic)
6) Wat wud the new intelligence agency be?
The entire gamut of Indian administration wud need to b revived.
Apart frm that, it's very well known that thr is continuous militant infiltration in2 kashmir.Wudn't this ease the process? Wat about the ISI? V all know about its link with terorrism.
If thr r terorrist attacks (take, 4 instance, the Heathrow plot) whr the terorrists r of Pakistani origin, our name wud unnecessarily get attached with it.V don't want that shame & hatred of othrs, do v? 4got 2 mention the terorrist trainig camps.V'll get linked 2 all that nasty stuff.
WAKE UP, bro! It's gud 2 make peace with othrs, but not at this cost! Rather than trying 2 merge, v shud try 2 put an end 2 terorrism. That wud b a more rewarding & pragmatic approach. If terorrism ends, peace will definitely reign.
This merger shud not b done!!! IT IS NOT POSSIBLE &, AS AN INDIAN, I'M VERY HAPPY ABOUT THAT.
Rather than wasting ur time, brain & energy on such idiotic ideas & futile efforts, use it 4 the progress of our gr8 nation.Thr r many burning issues which need our attention & time.
I know a South Indian brain can take India 2 even gr8er heights!;)

my suggestion is that both India and Pakistan consider joining the united states as states. they will be able to maintain a cultural diversity and be part of the greatest free union that has ever existed. they will be able to feel protected from each other and the world, and as part of the u.s. will in fact be the largest and most powerful country in the world.

They say two things that never mix are politics and religion, and unfortunately, I believe that the tension between the Muslims and Hindus are simply too great to overcome. In addition, with the egos involved, neither side would want to take a step back in order to take two steps forward.
