I was obsessed with breaking world records and never did my best at big championships. My dreams of Olympic glory crashed into smoke because of nerves and over-training.

That is an obsession.

There is no simple answer with a fixed no. of hours. Usually a normal exercice is the best way to go. Too much or too little is dangerous for both mind and body. Ancient greek philosophers used to say "Pan metro Aristo", which means "Excellence is always between the two extremes". That's the only way to keep your life balanced. Between gym-social life, math-rest of education, career-family, it can be applied everywhere!

You just have to ask yourself what's your priorities and then act accordingly using the above quote.

My daughter is 13 almost 14. She plays competitive softball. Close to 100 games a year between that and her school team. Has for three years. She has organized practices with her teams. Any other practice she does is totally up to her. She will usually ask me to go and practice with her 1 to 2 times a week above the teams practices. Every year I ask her if she wants to play again. She cannot quit in the middle of the year but at the end she knows she does not have to play the next year. She cannot get enough of it. I also see kids that are forced to practice. They learn to resent it and usually quit.

The limits of the human body are yet to be discovered! there is no such thing as too much training. We are tired and after sometime we start again, the idea is to get stronger every second that u spend training, sure i agree theres other stuff like arts and stuff but the limit at which the body itself says NO MORE is yet to be attained, We have created symphonys and stuff of art that are beyond explanation but strenght , flexibility and substance of control over ourselves will be the true accomplishment.

I believe that if you train too much, the possibility of burnout is pretty good, but there are some kids who are 100% devoted to their sport or workout and that's okay-----for them.
