I watched 60mins last night, there was a segment on twin boys, one was gay the other wasnt.
One of the things an 'expert' said was that they have discovered that the more older male siblings a boy has the greater his chance of being gay, and the odds increased with the number of siblings.
I was wondering if you guys had ever noticed any such thing?

Yes another theory they put forward was that a womens body produces antibodies to reject the amount of testosterone the male bady had, as she had more and more male children the antibodies became stronger adn stronger. It really was a thought provoking show, oh and the really amazing thing they have noticed? if the child is left handed it doesnt seem to apply!!!

I have heard of this theory and the study before Liva. It basically says that gay men tend to have older male siblings. I have not heard of any explanation for this occurrence other than it is nature's way of having one less reproducing, straight male in the population -- it's like too many males have been produced in one family. My only guess is that the mother's womb somehow becomes sensitized to the presence of testosterone -- maybe even triggering some sort of female sex hormone "flush" over the younger male baby's fetal brain.
By the way, both men and women produce testosterone but men produce far more, even as fetuses. Just an aside.

This is an interesting question. Mordachi3, I liked your answer. I had heard the general theory of older siblings, but not the details you gave.
I know someone who is the youngest child in a very large family who is gay. I also had a friend who was the oldest, and only boy and was gay. So... 50/50 for the people I know.

I have no older siblings, I am the eldest child. However, I do have 3 younger brothers.
There are always these programmes that try and link if you were the eldest, middle or youngest to things like homosexuality. (They've even tried it with likeliness of mental illness, physical disabilities, etc). Having studied psychology, there are numerous studies that show no links at all.

yes the more older brothers a boy has the greater chance the boy will be gay but only if he is right handed. i watch the same show and have written in commenting on it. hopefully now people will realise it's not a lifestyle choice it's simply who we are.

I believe a study like this could add some benefit in determining the hormone situation with gender nonconformity, but that is a different and separate issue than being homosexual. Seems they forget to add that equation in these studies as well.

i had one older brother that passed a long time ago. i was the second child. my father was the older brother and my uncle turned out to be gay. my great uncle? he won;t tell ya this but yup he's gay. my dad used to tell me how my great uncle would have gay parties and hide it from his wife. he was also- guess what?- the second child. weird huh? my father thought it was because the first male got the big dose of male hormones and the mother didn;t have much left for the second. who knows??

I have NO older brothers, just two younger half brothers, and I am gay. I think it's different for everybody. this question as to WHY someone is gay will go on forever. Who cares why??? Can't change it, and don't want to.

I am the younger of two boys in my family. It is funny, but I have made the observation myself that gay guys tend to be the youngest in their family.
