"Hawaii" by James Michener
It was a very long book, started with the very beginnings of Hawaii, the earliest tribes, the missionaries' arrival and their lives there, how they changed the native people, and it just continued from there all through Hawaii's history. It was a beautifully written book, and it changed the way I felt about religion and missionary work and the effect that can have on native people.
It made me decide that if it is at all possible, I want to go to Hawaii before I die.
