I know there are millions of wannabe's out there but why do most of the clubs I go to have sub-standard DJ's playing who constantly make mistakes. I have handed out 100's of seamless demos with no results. I also cover 5 different styles of music so I must have something they like????

It's not always about being technically perfect, I'd rather hear a DJ with great records who makes the odd mistake then someone flawless who plays rubbish.

That said, the best way to get noticed/start out is to start your own night somewhere small at first. There's plenty of bars you can book for free or a nominal deposit that you get back if you reach the bar target (usually about £1000). Get all your mates down, get them to bring their mates, take email addresses at the door and start a mailing list. Keep people informed of your next night.

If you want a regular job in a bar, keep bugging the managers, ask to cover the DJ if they're on holiday. Find out who's booking the DJs for them, most bars get them from a booker or agency. Make sure you're trying for places where your music would fit the clientele.

You have to keep making contacts, keep reminding them you're out there. Follow up about your CDs, ring them a week later, ask if they liked it. That kind of thing. It's hard work, but if you want it enough and you're good enough it'll happen. Get chatting to promoters at club nights you like, ask them if you can play warm-up sets at the next night, tell them how big your mailing list is. eg: you'll bring the punters down.

London's great, there's so much opportunity, particularly for niche music genres. And so many bars who want normal stuff too.

Good luck!

as an entertainment promoter i can only suggest that you buy a copy of the music papers ie new music express, also the stage has great ads at the rear of the paper even your local free ads has entertainers wanted ads, if you are really serious you could always contact local agencies or music promoters.
you should realise that there are thousands out there all chasing the same thing.
you can buy the stage (entertainment paper) and nme at most good newsagents or maybe online

Its like that with any new music in and around London, you've just got to keep at it and bring something innovative and fresh to the table - otherwise you'll just be seen to be emulating another artist.

Could you not promote your own club nights? Start building your own hype up, get yourself a myspace page, etc. Anything to get you known will help.
