Does anyone out there know how an ebay auction could turn to crap real quick? I do.

Some auctions wind up where the supposed winner gets a great prouduct at a dirt-cheap price. That's because of timing, and few bidders were in on it.

Having successfully bid and won a video of a movie which now is something of a rarety, the seller is giving all kinds of excuses like it being lost in the mail, and now the time ran out (they give you two months to get the product), I don't even think I'm getting a refund. Ebay acts aloof on this once 60 days go by.

I say, BEWARE ebay. What you think you may have won turns you into a loser because of a seller playing games.

It's not enough to give a seller negative feedback, when from all I can see, the seller is a fraud.

Any similar experiences? Input? Ten points and a free video when it turns up in the mail! (Ha!)

Most are. Did you pay with paypal? If so, open an item not received dispute and you will be refunded unless the seller can prove you received it through tracking. Try going to the community boards on ebay.com and they can help you a lot. Don't let one experience ruin ebay for you! 99.9% of sellers (like me!) have integrity.

Ebay is great and I have never had a problem. If you had a problem you should have made ebay aware of it at the very start and if you paid for it by paypal then you will have buyer protection.

Ebay has the power to ban the user and prosecute them for fraud if they determine that this was the case.

If the seller says that the item was posted they should have proof of that in the form of a receipt from the postal service and if they did send and it did get lost then I am afraid that's tough. That's not their fault. If you are getting something which you consider valuable then you should ensure that the item is insured for postage that way you are protected if it is lost. If the buyer didn't offer insurance then you take that risk but that is your risk and you must accept that and stop blaming someone else for the inadequacies of the postal service.

If doesn't have proof then you should certainly be seeking redress.

First off if you purchase on eBay make sure you always buy from reputable sources. Second, don't pay by check/cash/money order etc. Paypal is the safest way to pay, and almost everyone accepts it. If they do not, they probably aren't doing something right. Get your address confirmed by Paypal and you will have a much easier time resolving these sorts of disputes. I have had only one bad experience with eBay after almost 800 transactions, and paypal refunded me the money I lost and dealt with the fraudulent seller separate from me. eBay can be safe, but it is also very easy to be scammed if you do not know what to look for. BE CAREFUL!

Sorry you got dumped on, dude. The one experience I had with ebay was good. I got the item, the item worked, and they lived happily ever after. I have heard stories, though, of people getting something different than what the picture looked like. This one lady saw a pair of boots for sale, she bid on them and got them. When the box came, she opened it up and found one very nice boot, and one very nasty boot, in a different size. It turns out that she got both boots that were displayed, but the good boot was displayed in front of the other, so you couldn't see it. I hadn't heard what happened after that. It's unfortunate that that happens, but, considering how huge this whole ebay thing is, I'm amazed that it works at all. Oh yeah...you can keep the video. I've got enough, thank you. <*)))><

You can always open a dispute. I have bought a lot of stuff on eBay, but only from sellers with 100% or near $100% feedback.
