Please consider ONLY FOUR (OF A MULTITUDE!) of the following as FACTS, without reference (my apologies) to ANY gods or religions:
1) Accept that man alone is the master of his own destiny.
2) Accept global warming as a fact.
3) Accept the existence of countless imperfectly made barrels of deadly poisons at all nuclear facilities, and at the bottom of our oceans, mindful of the fact that Plutonium alone has a HALF-LIFE of 25,000 years!!!
4) Accept that man is inherently selfish, intolerant, power crazy, and arrogant.

Man by nature is born with many imperfections such as anger,
hatred, jealousy, greed, laziness, selfish, arrogant etc. Unless
and until man can find a long-lasting way to curb all these
natural deficiencies and learn to live in peace with others, I am
sorry and optimistic to say that man cannot and will not survive
long-term period on earth.
Man will always plan and devise more deadly weapons of mass
destruction to kill one another for the sake of power and
domination. Planet earth will not survive the destruction of its
natural resources, thus calamities like big hole in ozone layer,
global warming and melting of ice at north/south poles, and violent eruption of volcanoes and high multitude of earthquakes will eventually and totally destroy man from the face of the earth.

To start with #3 first, this is not the biggest problem. In fact radiation exposure is a key ingrediant in evolution. Wait till the magnetosphere disappears for a few hundred years naturally before you start griping about cancer from radioactive waste. #3 is problem, but not necessarily a big one. It is true it exists, and it will unfortunately mean the extinction of a lot of species on this planet, but we will probobly not be one of them because of #1. Of course we have all the resources necessary to halt or solve all the problems you mentioned above, as well as more, if it weren't for #4. We spend more money blowing eachother up than we do trying to solve any major problems mankind face on Earth. It is so bad that people will lie about the existance of issues such as #2 so that it doesn't interfere with them blowing up somebody else. I think we have the ingenuity and technology to survive for thousands of years to come, whether we choose to do it is another debate in itself.

Everything has a cycle there are no species, planets, companies, political parties, countries, animals, etc......that will last for a long term. I am sorry but that is the way it is. and plutonium or the greenhouse effect may just accelerate the inevitable but at the end it is inevitable.

Yes, I can be optimistic. Because I'm alive, and that is something to be optimistic about. Too much worry about the future is tearing the present apart.

I can be optimistic in saying that your fourth fact is our biggest downfall. Being able to coexist is part of long-term survival.
