In the period of time that Alexander existed, homosexuality was common and accepted. Please do not take the film for truth. Its a hyped up, hollywood affected piece of sh*t. If you're interested in Alexander, there are some great books available.

The director of the movie is not a homosexual person, and this was not the reason he portrayed Alexander as gay. The reason he did so was that there is all kinds of documentary evidence from varying sources that he had a lover (male) who travelled around with him, and that he had a number of other male lovers.
It is possible he was bi, or that he also made love to a woman for the purpose of procreation. From what I understand, the historical accounts mention this, but don't mention the character of his relationship with women very much.
And LOL for using the phrase "a gay". I hope you were being facetious.

Alexander the Great was a truly inspired and respectfull person
with open mind, strong beliefs and philosophical thoughts.
His braveness made him Great
His beliefs made him Unique
Hollywood has a tendency to twist things around
so next time
if you want to know the truth
try a history book instead of a dvd :)
This is the Oath Of Alexander - a small sample of the great spirit that he had
"I wish all of you, now that the wars are coming to an end, to live happily, in peace. All mortals from now on will live like one people, united, and peacefully working towards a common prosperity. You should regard the whole world as your own country with common laws, a country where the best and the brightest rule, regardless of race. I do not separate people, as do the narrow-minded, into Greeks and barbarians. I am not interested in the origin or race of citizens. I only distinguish them on the basis of their virtue. For me each good foreigner is a Greek and each bad Greek is worse than a barbarian. If ever differences arose, never resort to arms, but resolve them peacefully. If need be, I will serve as your arbitrator. Do not consider God as a dictatorial Ruler, but as Father of all, so that your conduct would resemble the cohabitation of siblings within one family. On my part, I consider all of you equal, white or dark, and I would like you not to be only plain subjects of my Commonwealth, but all shareholders, all partners.
To the extent it is in my power, I shall try to accomplish all that I promise. Keep the oath we are taking with the libation tonight like a Contract of Love"

There's a very strong possibility. His father, Phillip of Macedonia, was a "man's man," and the two of them did not get along, possibly because Alexander was more effeminate. Also, he had a boyhood friend who traveled everywhere with him. It was rumored that they were lovers (this wasn't unusual in the ancient Greek world). When the friend died, Alexander went into mourning, hid himself away, and refused to speak to anyone, even his generals, for days. He died himself a few months later. He had suffered a leg wound, but it should not have been enough, by itself, to kill him. Some say he really died of a broken heart--he couldn't go on without his lover.

In the ancient Greece most of the people were bisexual, old Greeks enjoyed in sex and orgies, even sex with animals...
On many archaeological findings you can see drawings of people having sex with other people (man-woman, man-man, woman-woman..). Even Aristotle considered that the love between two man is the only pure one....
It was a part of the culture than..... Some wealthy people on high positions used to keep orgies in their houses every week or so...
And as for Alexander, well nobody can tell for sure, but in the writings of his own writer (I can't remember his name) you can read that he really had a love relationship with Hefastion...
I hope this can help you to understand...
p.s. if you'll find some time, read this book, the movie is not to true..

he was a bi - as by popular belief. he even had a son from his wife. as for his homo sexuality. scholars have a divided opinion. the customs and behaviour of ancient times were very different to ours and the things we minght find gay were quite normal for men then. however he did have a special bond with his best friend. whether that was sexual or not is still unclear. it was very common for young boys born and tutored together to be close and intimate with each other although not necessarily physically. so i guess these interpretations and evidences are just circumstantial. untimately its ur stand ....either ways he was and shall remail Alexander - the Great!

Not really, but the culture at the time was such that many engaged in free sex with either sex, and often in orgies.
The movie I feel was serving some agenda, as it was innacurate to portray him as homosexual. Perhaps this contributed to its abysmal performance. certainly watching the movie one would be forgiven for thinking Alexander is most famous for his male conquests in bed, rather than the battlefield which is false.

concept of gayism is not new
concept of deploring the gay is also new....
gayism has been from the ages....
but gay marraige was never considered good...
in those times it didnt matter if the u were having sex with a man woman or animal or with all of them
untill u had a wife/husband in your house and u were being able to look after them....

talz talz and teano are both right. Homosexuality was more than common, it was they way of things. Men and women were usually only together for the purpose of making children. But please don't judge the time period by our answers or the film............
it was so long ago, we can only make theories and educated guesses by what the people left behind...their books and murals....stories handed down and such.

He was Bi - definitely
However, it was fine to do so back then, you only humped a girl when you wanted babies, Alexander would have had sex with men for fun...messing about with women was a serious offence
