I'd go for a dog. I used to be into cats, but since having a Maltese, i find that it is like having a cat, but with heaps more personality and they WANT to spend time with you and not just come to you when they want food. Start with a small size, nothing smaller than a Maltese though. If you want it as an outside dog ( or guard dog ), then I'd go something like a staffy or cattle dog. if u are a girl, a cat would be the perfect pet for u, dogs are much more active and dirty and hyper and need so much more attention than cats. Cats are sweet, calm and very loveable!!

Small dogs can be nice pets too, but too much of a hassle!

I say dog! Im a girl myself, and have a handsome Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He's cute and cuddley. He's very gentle too, perfect for a girl.
