Yes, I do, the US has it, no reason why we shouldnt here in the UK.

I totally agree, and I dont think they should languish on death row for years, if you are sentenced to death it should be done as quickly as possible.

People like Peter Sutcliffe, Dennis Nilson, Ian Huntley etc have taken lives and should not be allowed to live on taxpayers money.

Imagine all the extra room our overcrowded prisons would have if all the murderers and peadophiles were gotten rid of.

Apart from the one obvious exception (John Paul de Menezes), generally speaking no one seems to mind police officers arbitrarily administering the death penalty, i.e. shooting armed people in life or death situations.

Imagine this scenario: a police officer comes across someone who is committing an armed crime who, in his presence, shoots another. Raising his gun at the officer, the man is shot by police.

In scenario one, he dies. Who cares? No one - perfectly excusable. In scenario two, he receives minor injuries and survives. At trial, he gets "life" and is out within 15 years. What abject nonsense.

And, to add a real element of controversy, isn't it amazing how so many people oppose the death penalty for ruthless criminals, yet are totally compliant with the UK's policy of birth control by abortion, whereby quite literally thousands of perfectly viable and innocent human beings are plucked from their mother's wombs each year and left to die in hospital sluices.

And, finally, the Birmingham Six, the Guildford Four and all of the other high profile people who were successful at appeal were NOT found not to have done what they were accused of. In each and every such case they were successful because their convictions were "unsatisfactory and unsafe". The Appeal Court went out of its way to make it clear that they were not saying that they were innocent. If there was a balance of probability verdict, in each case they would have been found guilty - our problem is the need to prove criminal cases beyond reasonable doubt.

Every time there was an atrocity like Birmingham and Guildford and people were arrested it stopped such bombings for quite some time until the IRA regrouped.

Finally, the answer is an emphatic YES - the death penalty should be brought back. Unfortunately, under European Law it is illegal and so can never be the case.

This is a sensitive issue, and opinions vary depending on the severity of the crime. There are certain criminals that are an abomination to society. And if imprisoned, they may someday get out and walk again amongst us.
Death penalty is not so much apunishment, as i believe life imprisonment is more of a punishment; death penalty is about ridding society of those who are a threat to other peoples' well-being

The European Convention of Human Rights outlaws the death penalty except in certain circumstances in times of war.I think its Article 6. Its an urban myth that the UK has the DP for arson in a royal dockyard etc. They should introduce the DP to deal with all these Russian crooks buying up Brit soccer teams!!!

Yes i do this country should look at the way USA sentence their criminals they don`t get soft sentence`s over there like we do everybody knows the law here is a big joke thats why crime is on the increase there is no deterent so people who say don`t bring back the death penalty ask yourself if someone murdered someone very close to you how would you feel then when the judge gives them just a few yrs.now there is enough dna evidence to get it right

There are instances, where guilt is beyond a shadow of doubt, where I beleive the death penalty should be imposed, but, if we aren't going to do that, and I doubt if we ever will, why don't we punish these people instaed of keeping them in almost luxury. Make them do hard labour, solitary confinement, which I know does happen, but something to make them see the error of their ways, so to speak.

NO NO NO! If they did bring it back, I would leave on the next plane. I think the death penalty is 1. Disgusting. Two wrongs don't make a right. ". It is like letting them get away with it. To me, death is not a punishment, since it robs people of rehabilitation and paying back the community for their crimes. 3. While we had it, they killed innocent people, and brutally, since the method of choice in Britain was the yard. So if they brought it back, I'd be in fear of my life, since all I'd have to do would be be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and they could string me up. 4. It is not a deterrent. Look at America. Crimes like murder are spur of the moment, passionate acts. People don't think 'hang on, there's the death penalty.....' And DNA evidence is not foolproof, neither are fingerprints.

Yes. If a criminal is proven to have intentionally killed another person who was not a threat to the killer, for example, he should be made to pay for it before he takes another victim.

But there will be an intrinsic problem, because a lot of killers do not use their own hands to clearly kill others. Think about some bad peple who like to play politics, in different areas such as business, etc. I hope I am mistaken.

Only where DNA evidence has proved that person killed someone, otherwise there will be danger the wrong person gets killed, but even that isn't 100% sure. I think child killers, and rapists should get the death penalty... there should be degrees of murder... if you kill someone in a fit of anger, ie.you find out there cheating on you or kill someone for revenge then no... and also if kill someone by mugging etc. then no, but for childkillers, rapists and sick evil people should be killed.
