This is why we start studying from the beginning rather from the present.
SATA is considered to be very slow and bad performance w.r.t PATA and is discarded in the past.
But later it was found SATA is very fast in accessing data than PATA so PATA is replaced by SATA.
SATA : the data is tranferred serially ie data to transmit is send as bulk.U can see the data transfer code of SATA.it is very small since data is transferred serially.
PATA : parallel transmission.U can see the data code used in PATA and can understand practically.it contains a lot of wires which employ parallel transmission.

IDE, ATA and PATA are all the same thing. IDE stands for Integrated Drive Electronics and was the first name for the technology that evolved into ATA/PATA. Since it was the first, the acronym is used similar to how the term "rollerblades" is used for Inline Skates or "Kleenex" is used for Tissue Paper. ATA stands for AT attachment, "AT" is a term developed by IBM for an old type of motherboard. ATA was the hard drive attachement for that version of motherboard. PATA means Parallel ATA, meaning that the data travels parallel on the 50 pin cable as opposed to SATA which stands for Serial ATA. That means the data travels in a line Serial and Parallel are terms that are rather common in computers. The main difference between IDE, ATA/PATA and SATA is the connections to the motherboard. SATA has an advanced data system that allows it to send more data on a smaller cable than ATA/IDE. When they changed the data cable, they also changed the power cable. To you, the biggest difference is the connections. Other than that, they all work pretty much the same. SATA has a faster theoretical bandwidth than ATA and the cable takes up much less room in the case allowing for better cable management. Overall, SATA is the choice you are going to want to make in your hard drive purchase.

The difference is SATA is faster and better then PATA drives because they have a data transfer rate higher then PATA drives which is for older computers.

SATA-600 MBps,1 bit is transferred at one time.
PATA-100 MBps,16 bits are transferred at one time.

The SATA hard disc is serial hard disc which is the latest one and much fater than the PATA har disc which is parallel hard disc. SATA hard disk transfers data at a maximum of 3gb/s but PATA is much slower.
The size of the cables also differs. SATA has thin cables where PATA has large cables. so it would be convinent to manage cables in your system.

SATA is Serial ATA and PATA is Parallel ATA. They are merely the two types of interface between your harddrive/disk and your PC. As far as internal magnetic storage media and spindle motor and control electronics are pretty much the same for the two. SATA generation I (GEN I) is moving data at 150MB/s and GEN II at 300MB/s. PATA drives are specified at UDMA 4,5 (and higher?) UDMA mode 4 is transferring data at 66MB/s. All in all, the transfer speed is much faser for SATA and cabling is easier...

Serial ATA's signals are transferred one after the other down a single wire. Parallel ATA's signals travel in parallel over many wires.
SATA is better in many ways, speed, cost, ease of installation, the cable's don't block airflow as much as regular IDE (PATA) cables do.

If you have flat 2inch wide cables in your computer they are PATA
, if not they are SATA, or you have rounded PATA cables, lol
