there's no myth.
it's a ecuation between the tact speed (ghz) and the architecture(number of operations/cycle, threading, etcetera)
there are factors as the cache memory, used as a veey high speed low quantity ram, and wether or not the processor has the memory controller embedded (amd procs).
read some internet reviews.
