Give them a respectful name that is like a person name. They are a companion not a pet. They are great.

How can I know what they name of your companion animal is I know nothing about him or her. I have not met this lovely animal. There are tons of wonderful names, but it has to fit the animal just like a persons name has to fit.

If it helps I've named my dog Dylan! I think it's fun calling pets human names and the rest of the people have no idea what you are talking about!
eg: It's so fun when I tell my colleagues "I'm going out with Dylan this afternoon"!!!
