I'm having one next week because of a suspected peptic ulcer. But the doctor doing it said the procedure will take no more than 2 and a half minutes. I've heard of it taking up to 20 minutes. Is this doctor not being thorough? Or maybe he doesn't expect to find anything?

The time it takes from arrival to time you leave depends on how busy the facility is. But from the time you revieve the sedation medication (usually versed) it will take from 20 minutes to 1 hour the medication effects everyone different. But the actual procedure (once in the room and prepared) takes only 2-3 minutes. I watched one during nursing school. And the Doctor is thorough... Very neat procedure...

This procedure is done under anaesthetic and normally takes 20 minutes. There is no way you will get a thorough examination in 2 or 3 minutes. Get a referral to another specialist.
The procedure is upper gastrointestinal endoscopic.
