I think movies can affect a person's life, as can books and various other types of communications.
I think a movie that has always influenced me is the 1949 Gregory Peck war movie "12 O'Clock High." It is an outstanding study in leadership styles and priorities in a combat situation.
One World War II veteran who had flown combat missions as a gunner over Germany told me this movie showed better than any other he'd seen what it was like to fly combat in 1942-44.
Another movie that played an important part in my life was the 1953 Cinemascope pioneer "The Robe." It starred Richard Burton and Victor Mature, for those who like to know these things. It got me interested in ancient Rome and I have enjoyed learning about this ever since.
These are pretty old movies, but I'm kind of old myself and found these pictures inspiring as well as educational. There are many movies that are as good or better than these. I like movies that not only entertain me, but teach me something. Such movies bear watching over and over and I learn something every time I watch one of these.
I also thoroughly enjoy "The Lion in Winter," both the 1968 and the later version done for television in the 1990's.

Yes, watching Crash made me realize how overly suspicious people can be of one another and how race affects our thoughts whether we know it or not.
As for movies in general, they definitely change people's lives because the audience's perceptions and judgements are directly affected by messages hidden inside the movie. Movies can shape society.

Well like I saw this movie the other day... 16 Blocks... And it so kinda affected how I was feeling. Because alot of it is like action and all but the guy was talking about signs and how we miss them but they are there and I started to analyze my life. Try to see the 'signs' we ignore and I started seeing them. hahahahaaaaa...

I can't really name one, but a lot of them make you think, and help you change without even noticing it.
