I had inherited two cats from my mother. They were extremely close. They'd spend Winter nights curled up in a little box together. One was an outdoor cat, one was an indoor kitty. When the oldest one died I cannot tell you the obvious mourning that the younger one did for months and months.

She would wake me up in the middle of the night, and I'd have to go sit out in the dining room with her until she fell asleep. She would go out and come in and walk around and around "calling" her companion. This went on for - like - nearly a year.

There were a whole bunch of things she did that were clearly signs of mourning.

This isn't the only example I've seen, but it was certainly the biggest one I've witnessed.

We used to leave our dog in a kennel for a few days while we went on a little trip. Once we stayed an extra day and when we got back the vet said he was glad we came because the dog had begun to show signs of depression.

Yes - animals have emotions. Some animals that are more intelligent or complex probably have more emotions than simpler, less complex animals; but it is wrong to believe they don't have any.

at any point, we are animals. humans are classified as mammals(basic science in elementary) emotions are felt by any animal so as to speak but animals that aren't human does not have the capability to know what is right from what is wrong and act simply on their instincts. humans like us, has the capability to think logically.
