On Christmas day in 1776, the moral of the American rebels was at it's lowest point since the start of the war. Washington organized a night time surprise attack against the Hessian (German) controlled town of Trenton, New Jersey.

He took 2,400 men across the Delaware River, and attacked a Hessian garrison of 1,500 men, taking them completely by surprise and forcing most of them to surrender. This move on Gen. Washington's part was brilliant, because it increased the morale of his troops to the point that enlistment started to rise again.

The strategy was simple yet effective. The Revolutionary troops (Americans) hid in the woodline, and camoflouged themselves to avoid detection. When the Brits came marching through in their redcoats, they always marched and fought in formation, the Americans would ambush them over and over again. I believe that is why Vietnam was successful in the U.S pullout because the Vietcong would hide and make tunnels, and live off the land, and make booby traps. It really takes a united effort to defend a country, that is why it is always easier to defend than to attack. Also why Bush should have never attacked Iraq because America has never done that before. We have always came to another countries aid that was being attacked and had many allied forces i.e, England, France, South Korea, South Vietnam........
