I would like to propose and seek funding for an exhibition as I see connection between my paintings and the work of the company, which is a large internet search engine. I want to talk to the right person but don't know quite how to go about it.

Send the Public Relations manager an intriguing package with sample(s) of your work. (You're an artist - your ideas on INTRIGUING would be MUCH better than mine.)

Include a VERY Brief cover letter to explain that you will be contacting them personally in the near future.

Have your package delivered by messenger so you'll get a time stamp.

Follow up with a phone call and invitation for a SHORT private meeting - location of their choice. Arrive with your own beverage and to share - you should be entertaining them - not the other way around.

If they are large you can be sure they are getting approached on regular basis.

Do some initial research on the company, find out if they already sponsor arts projects. I'd call the company and talk to whoever answers the phone say you're doing some initial research blah, blah and could they tell you the best person to speak to. If they don't know ask for PR of Corporate Communication. Remember you're just after names at this stage. Don't be tempted to talk to anyone in a position to turn your project down before you're prepared.

Call other arts projects and speak to those in charge of getting funding. Many people welcome the opportunity to share what they know - if they have the time. So offer to call them back if they are busy.

Your most likely going to have to put your request in writing so maybe the following links will give you some ideas on how to present your proposal.

Call the company and ask to speak to the PR manager. See if you can't get a meeting with him/her and bring a good, broad sample of your artwork.
