I don't think so. My son had it till he was 2 and I took it away and when his sister was born when he was 2 1/2 she sucks on a nuk and he shows no interest in it now and doesn't try sucking on it. If you take it away by 2, it shouldn't cause any dental problems later in life.

I think it should be ok, my 21 month old still uses it but only for bedtime or naps and not at any other time. When I get her up from her nap, she knows to put down her snooky and blanket.. She used to have abottle as well and she gave that up all by herself. Now I ask her, "do you want a bubby for your nap? and she answers me yes or no. 9 times out of 10 the answer is no. My 10 month old son uses a snooky too. If you get the orthadontic approved ones, it is better for the shape of their teeth. Little ones go thru so many changes in the first two years, no bottle, sippy cups, potty training, big girl beds etc etc. The road is a long and interesting one but well worth it. Good luck.

No, it's really not bad. Although baby's no longer phsysically need to suck on a pacifier, they often have an emotional need. I wouldn't worry about it until he's about 2, but there's a chance he may even give it up before then. Just don't have it in his mouth when he's not in bed, that's when it turns into a really bad habit. My friend's daugther is 3 and she goes around with the pacifier in her mouth all the time. Dentists say it won't start messing with their teeth until the age of 4, so for now just let him enjoy his binky while he sleeps.

i would recommend if you can break him of it right now, do so, because the longer you wait, the harder it will be. my son is 18 months old, and the only way he will go to sleep without a pacifier is if he is exhausted and can't help but pass out. otherwise, he has to have it to sleep. (he doesn't use it any other time) one method i've heard that may work in breaking babies and toddlers from the pacifier is poking a small hole in the nipple. every couple of days, slightly increase the size of the hole. the idea is that they do not get the same sucking sensation and will eventually realize they do not need it.

I actually read something recently that sad babies who use pacifiers actually have a reduced rate of dying from SIDS. How true that is I'm not 100% positive. Just be prepared to take it away around 12 month, it will be difficult at first but much easier then later on when they are emotionally attached to it.

It's not bad at all. I got rid of my son's before he was 12 months. He doesn't miss it or suck his thumb. But I was lucky. There are plenty of kids out there who are 2 or 3 still using a pacifier or dummy.

i don't believe in giving a baby a pacifier at all i had 3 kids and i never bought them one there's no need for that at all. baby's get fussy for many reasons but a pacifier should not be an option but since your son is used to it it will be hard for you to get him off it. try other things like giving him a teddy bear to sleep with but please throw away that pacifier don't give up even if he cries he will eventually see that its gone.
