Why shouldn't it be ready? Felmale or minority presidents would do a much better job than the male idiotic white guy we have now.

I don't think there'll ever be a black president--their day has passed. Colin Powell was a possibility, but he showed himself to be a kowtower. The first minority presdent will probably be either an Asian or a Hispanic.
As for a woman (women are not a minority, but majority), I don't think there'll be one in 2009. A woman president may come if the US suddenly faces a huge catastrophe where they need to pay attention to the common benefits of the entire country--redo the entire system, economic, medical, education, environment--for women are better at dealing with the big picture than men are.

A female president will come first, and will likely come within the next 20 years. Although there is still much racism and sexism in this country I feel that there is less of each than there ever have been. I also think that the combination of less sexism and more women voters will be responsible for a woman in the white house before a minority is. I don't think that anybody that is currently famous is likely to be the first non-white male president.

Well, since we have only had white male presidents for hundreds of years......the results have not been that great. I am not saying that we have not had a good president or one that has made a difference, but in the last few years I think that America should vote for someone that will straighten out what the Bush-Clan mangled.....yes, I am a liberal.
But it shouldn't matter what the party, race or sex is. Minorities and women have also proved that they can perform a job that a white male has; equal and in some cases better.

I think America is ready not only or a minority president--but a new kind of republican--one that is not so heavy handed and arrogant. Colin Powell is respected by most Americans and one of the rare honest politicians. If he ran I think he'd win.

america is ready. the problem is we do not, unfortunatly, many minority leaders are not much of leaders. the biggest example is jesse jackson, who likes to make all black people out to be victims tries to convince them to blame everyone instead of teaching and encouraging empowerment or how to overcome. and people like hilary clinton is to far to the left even for many liberals. as soon as a minority or women leader can step up and encourage people to empower themselves rather than to cry victim, then maybe we might see one in the oval office.

Not quite yet in my opinion..and I think a minority will make it in before a woman does...I'd like to see either one do the job,as long as they are qualified to do so

America is ready for any president who will ignore the people and push them around using propaganda and red terror alerts.
