The book is a good! it is a new concept, there are magicians in da world and everyone knows that they exist, it is based in modern day london. the book is also good bcoz it is written in two different perspectives, the magician,Nathaniel and the djini, bartimaeus, his demon. demons are the life blood of magicians, they are the ones who are summoned and bound to our world by the magicians. thay do all the magic, but comman men think its the magicians who do it.
it is different from Harry Potter and cant be compared, but its a leader in its own field.

Oh gosh, it's fantastic. I pre-ordered the second and third books...and I'm well above the intended age range. Very smart, funny, and fast-paced. I read it about the same time I was reading Susannah Clarke's Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, and it struck me as sort of a modern-day younder sibling to Strange & Norrell.

I loved the trilogy, as did my nephew, very Harry Potterish appeal to it (cuts across generation boundaries, he's 16 I'm 36). I highly recommend it.
