I don't put the seat up. But from what I gather, some men are taught to do that from a young age so they don't piss all over the seat. I rarely get more than a drop on the seat, so all I do is wipe it off. I think I have pretty good aim. All you have to do is hold it and look at where the piss is going. Urine is sterile unless you have some sort of infection anyway, so all people have to do is clean up after themselves and it's all good.
It isn't so hard to put the seat down either. How about this: whoever uses the toilet leaves it in the position they needed it. That way, half of the work (putting the seat up) gets done by the man and the other half (putting the seat down) gets done by the woman. As long as you aren't drunk and trying to sit on a seat that's not down, I think that would work well! But to answer your question, sometimes it is hard to aim. Sometimes the end of the penis gets stuck together by semen and that makes piss spray over the seat. It's particularly difficult to piss with an erection. And children probably don't have the best aim in the world (it's worse when children are also taught not to touch themselves), so they are taught to put up the seat and that habit stays with them. Good night!

It is better to have to put a toilet seat down than to have the toilet seat sprayed with urine. The ideal situation is to have the toilet seat down and for the man to put it up before he pee and then put it back down. But if you have young boys around that is not always possible and it may be better to have the seat up all the time.

When a guy pees there is micro fine spray out from the main stream. Just like a garden hose.
I know women get really annoyed about the seat being left up.
NOW GIRLS! I get annoyed when you leave the seat down as I have to lift it up and get your spray on my hands, think about it.
WOMEN are NOT always right and things should not always have to be done their way.

Yes, it is. You're standing 3 feet above the seat, so having the widest opening possible is best. And not all pee streams come out in a straight, direct manner. When the stream is just starting it can go anyplace before you aim it, and sometimes a forked stream will spray in two directions.

Itis considered polite and good manners to raise the seat if you are not going to use the seat.
Therefore .......
IFsomeone does accidently sprinkel,it will not end up on the seat that some innocent poor sole might sit in it.
