I think you answered your own question. Logistics refers to being able to find the fastest way to deliver goods and services to a remote location so that operations run smooothly without interruption.

A delay in delivery can add up to substantial losses in productivity and output so it is crucial that everything that's suppose to be there at a given time be there when needed.

Logistic means bringing right materials at right time at right place. Further make it available on demand. Now a days JIT (Just In Time) method is followed to reduce the demarage cost and space of ware houses.

Logistic includes sourcing out of suppliers, procurement of materials, co-ordinating with transportation / shipment companies and Customs Offices, and finally warehouse staff.
