Diamonds, though considered "hard", are crystalline in structure. They can therefor be cut across their valence rings. This is what gives them their sharp angled facets. This is why you never see "round" or "oval" smooth diamonds, shaped like an opal, for example.

Diamonds aren't cut, they are faceted along the natural planes within the crystal structure. That is why the shapes a diamond can be are limited.

Diamonds get cut by diamonds. Because nothing else will cut it, they have to use a diamond to cau a diamond. All the little left over chips that are cut of get put onto a paper(like sanding paper, exept it isn't sand it is diamond dust) they use this to pollish the diamonds till they are perfect. I hope this answers your question.

We don't cut diamonds, we shatter them along lines where the crystals align. Like many crystals, they can be cleaved in certain directions according to the direction the crystal is aligned.
There is a difference between hardness and brittleness. Diamonds are hard but brittle. They are also flammable.

You don't really cut diamonds. They are fractured along lines of weakness.
