My dad told one of his customers that my little sis was getting married before her husband left for Iraq. The lady said "oh, so she's going to be a widow?" When My dad told us that story, I was shocked and disgusted that ANYONE would say such an awful thing. That is okay if you don't support the war, does anyone agree with her making that statement, and if you do, please tell me your political party so I know who to associate what with.

thanks for everyone's support. My dad was so shocked, he didn't even know what to say. Of course he did not relay that to my little sis, who by the way is 18, just a baby. I just thank you guys for showing me that I wasn't crazy thinkin I woulda slapped her right in the mouth!

quite possibly one of the most offensive things i've heard to date. mostly because it shows no empathy or tact whatsoever. i'm sure your sister's stomach is already in knots as a result of her husband's departure, and i can't believe someone would say something that sodding insensitive. i can be a bit harsh myself at times, but this was unacceptable on so many levels.
sorry it went down that way. it was uncalled for.

There are a lot of ignorant people from all political perspectives.
This customer was not only insensitive...she was insultory.
My guess is, she was an ignorant Democrat that didn't support the current administration.
And as the soldiers I serve will tell you...regardless of their own personal political affiliations...they will say "If you don't support the President, you don't support what I do...and therefore you don't support me - the soldier".
I am sorry your dad was insulted in such a way.
I wish your little sis and her new husband a very long and happy marriage.

Although it is a careless and abrupt comment but I bet the lady was neither an Iraqi nor even a Muslim.
Agreed the comment is not acceptable to the family members being very rude. What is the boy going for? If not killed then at least to kill?
To me your sis is like a daughter and her hubby as a son. I wish both of them a long married life full of health and happiness.
But are there not parents, sons and daughters out there in Iraq also where the Allied forces are operating?
Is there any visible peace after capture of Saddam and killing of Al-Zarqavi?
The peace will only be there after the departure of occupation forces.
Please, please do not think only as Americans who voted Bush in power. Be humane and think of humanity, it has a right to exist out side America also.
I will definitely condemn that careless remark of the lady but at the same time let's not ignore the other side of the picture also. There are human beings in Iraq too.

I could never be such a fanatic as to say something like that to a family member of a soldier. That woman wants her whole identity wrapped up in her in-fashion anti-war rants. That sort of crap comes from the power of grabbing camera time during Vietnam without having to back anything up. No doubt she stopped thinking thoroughly quite some time ago.

I dont support the war, but yes that was an awful thing to say. She had no right to say such a thing. Even if you are against the war you dont have the right to put that on someone like that.

I'm a democrat and very glad I wasn't behind that lady in the store. You can be for or against the war but to say something that cruel is just crap. That woman (certainly not lady) needs to be decked!

She is telling the truth. The odds for him returning are very good, but it is a roll of the dice. The little sis needs to face the reality of the situation. Americans are dying in Iraq and Afganistan.

I don't care if you are Democrat or Republican (actually, I'm Moderate), what she stated was sh!tty. I don't agree with the war, but she should've applauded him for going to war. He is a Valued Soldier, and should be treated as such...

There is absolutely no excuse for someone to say that to anyone. She is obviously a very callous person and most likely finds the bad in everything.

I am a liberal, against the war and I think it was wrong of her to say that. I fully support our troops and want them to come home safely. Good wishes to your sister and her fiance.
