Afghanistan is historically a no-win situation for us. We lost to the Afghans in the 19th century - a massive defeat for the British army. In the 20th century, the might of the Red Army, comprising some 500,000 was defeated by the Afghans, resulting in 30,000 dead Russian soldiers, including the shooting down of some 300 helicopters. No one it seems have paid any attention to the historical facts surrounding war with Afghanistan and their persistant ability to WIN. Who are the Afghanistanis exactly? I have been paying attention to them since the c70s and have come to the conclusion that the people of Afghanistan represent a mix of tribal and ethnic groups - some with undoubted warlike Celtic connections and others who look or resemble what looks like Alexander's army. The Afghani fighter will appear in the field at a moment's notice, he wears lightweight clothing, carries enough ammo for a day's shooting with his Kalashnkov assault rifle. He is not loaded down with heavy kit or equipment and can move fast from one place to another with ease. The Americans won the Revolution in c1776 by behaving exactly as the present day Afghani fighters do, shooting from behind cover, never confronting their enemy in direct hand to hand combat and whenever possible arriving without warning.
Afghanistan is impossible terrain for a modern army and getting anywhere with vehicles is next to impossible. The Afghan fighters to it by traveling light and fast on foot for the most part or using donkeys when carrying extra kit for a big job.
Since the so-called democratisation of Afghanistan the opium poppy harvest has increased several fold. Are the American Gov the real drug barons or what???
Pull the BritArmy and NATO allies out of Afghanistan now. Also, pull out of Iraq.
HISTORY
In 1922 Winston Churchill went to Cairo to see Lawrence. Yes, THE LAWRENCE OF ARABIA. When Lawrence came out of his house, the people in the street lay prostate before him on the ground. Winston told the people that the United Kingdom is the greatest Muslim country on earth. Not only was Winston a great man, he was also a man of considerable vision, having four stars on each palm of his hands. He had been given a gift a very special gift. He was a man of destiny with a task to fulfill. That task could not be completely fulfilled in his lifetime. Historically the British maintained very close ties with the world of Islam from Elizabethan times onwards. Why are we now hooked in with the United States and it's satellite Israel??? Neither of these so-called allies of UK act in the same instinctive way in which the British people would wish to. The British people have a natural curiosity for the exotic culture of Islam and wish to know ever more about it.
MORE HISTORY
When Napoleon Boneparte went to Egypt, he made his way to Cairo and sought out the Grand Mufti. When he got an audience with the Grand Mufti of Cairo, he converted to Islam. Napoleon wanted La Grande Armee to convert [as a man] to Islam, but they refused.
The USA is dragging us toward the gates of Hell. Time to cut loose and free outselves from this yolk of American slavery and go our own natural way. Seek a dialogue with Islam. It is never too late to repent of our mortal sin in being in partnership with the USA in mass murder and war crimes. The war in Iraq is illegal. The killing of civilians in any war is a crime against humanity, a war crime that should not be allowed to go unpunished.
WHERE I DISAGREE
Osama bin Laden claimes to have fulfilled the command of God by offering both the UK and USA the chance to convert to Islam. It is not that simple. It is not a matter for nations but a matter for the individual. To fulfill the command of God it is necessary for Osama bin Laden or any other Muslim to ask kindly of each and every non believer if they would like or wish to convert to Islam.
I live in a world of harsh reality - I know that your cause may never be defeated but I also know that as a Celt I have a thousand years in which to plan your inevitable downfall Osama bin Laden. You have made a grave error by not asking me personally to convert to Islam. For this crime you will die.

Your first question:
1) how did they know all they killed they were terrorists?
The US led military have little no to no interest in avoiding civilian casualties in areas where little technology exists for the local population to make the world aware of the genocide being committed against them. If it does, then infrastructures are destroyed first to prevent this (Israelis destroying Lebanon's infrastructure rather than military targets shows this too).
2) If you have lived in a country for years and some army comes in don't the people have the right to get rid of the invaders?
Morally, yes. However the US led side claims that they are freeing people form oppresion by the Taliban, and in many cases this is true however UN intervention backed up by the Talibans agreement to adhere to the UN Declaration of Human Rights would be a better way to start.
The war in Afghanistan was started because the US govt needed to be seen to be doing something about the Al Quaida threat, so rather than wait to discover the real threats and then eliminate them they started a second Vietnam style anti-population war to enable them to be re-elected on a "we are at war, theres no time to change govt" ticket...this is how many fascist governments and dictatorships start, though the application of exhaggerated fear on their own populations, Hitler and the "threat" that the Jews posed is another good example (terrorism itself?).
3) How threatened should we really be of the Taliban?
If you live in Europe, North America or similiar the threat to you from the Taliban is almost 0%. The Taliban is made up of largely rural and mountain fighters living in caves and medieval villages, there are warlords etc who are modernised but not to any extent that a 1st world teenager is. The Taliban is NOT Al Qaida just as Al Qaida has NOTHING to do with Iraq and its forces no matter what US govt spokes people tell you. The Taliban are a threat to some Afghanis and possibly their neighbouring countries, no one else.
The Taliban are an armyand govt, they represented the former govt (themselves) in a military capacity therefore they are not a terrorist organisation by definition. They were armed largely by the US whilst they fought against the Soviets, the US also helped them with their drug harvests so that the Taliban could afford to pay the US back for the weapons..then the Afghans won, Soviets collapsed and suddenly the Afghans are drug dealing warlords not anti-soviet freedom fighters...though nothing changed for them they merely stopped fighting the Soviets trying to invade them and started fighting the US forces trying to invade them.
If you are European or US then the threat is from your own govt using "terror" as a voting tactic and a way to limit civil rights, the UK lived under a greater threat from the IRA for 30 plus years (approx time of the last IRA campaign) and did not feel the need to carpet bomb Dublin, why should we fear a bunch of farmers with AK47s several thousand miles away?

We promised that we would be in for the long haul just like we promised to go to war over Poland in 1939! Yes Britain has already been in Afghanistan before the Russians tried it and it turned out badly, but they were totally different circumstances. British and American forces are there at the request of the elected representatives of the Afghan people and are fighting against a foe who would enslave their own people. The only way that we can control the opium (and remember Britain fought China and won over Opium exports - hence why we had Hong Kong) is to offer a viable alternative to the warlords controlling the business.

Afghanistan should be able to manage its own problems. Terrorism isn't something that can be conquered -- the US, along with many countries, seem to be slow on realizing that. For example, the Lebanese government is democratic and Hezbollah actually held about 3% of the parliament. You can change the gov't or try to police nations, but it only complicates things. You can't change the people or their views. I think you have a good point: resisting an invading force within your own country. I disagree with the loose usage of the word 'terrorist', because your point is exactly one way that the word is misused.

Good point. Afghanistan was a pretty peaceful country before Toni Blair (deliberately spelt wrong) and George Bush invaded it. I no they had terrorists bombing others and the whole country was living in fear, but at least there was no fighting. Pull our boys out. Wipe Afghanistan of the map, like the EU are planning to do to us.

Some of them probably were terrorist but most of them were probably jut civilians like you and me getting on with everyday life but they have to say they were all terrorists to try and excuse what they are doing. They are murders in an argument that doesn't involve them really it's these home grown terrorist we want to be watching out for. i rate they should decide that enough is enough they can't just pull out though coz look at what they have done to their poor city they need to stay and rebuild it or they will have a lot of angry Afghanistan's and George bush and his lap dog tony Blair need tying up and shooting bring back the death penalty for them as after all they are the murders there the ones who sat back in a little room and conspired the whole thing . Well that's just my opinion.

honestly people are ignorant. they think that every afghani is a terrorist. taliban came into power just like hitler did. the afghans thought that the taliban would help them out and be a good thing just like the germans thought hitler would be a good thing for them.
and you never know.. the gov't could just be telling us that to make us feel like we're accomplishing something just so bush doesnt make himself seem more of an *** for causing so much pointless ****.
but honestly if they want to help they should let the afghans do their thing. but just be there to protect them and ensure that everything's okay without any negative interference. and once its all under control with the afghani's themselves. let them handle it .
