I've been singing Boys to Men, "it's so hard to say Goodbye to yesterday". I am so hurt over his death. he will be sorely missed. Does any one else feel the same way?

It is sad, but you know what? He did extremely dangerous work for a living, and he loved it. I feel bad for his kids, but in the end he lived his life the way he wanted. His death was a fluke, but ultimately unsurprising. I imagine he's up in heaven trying to hold a seraphim's tail even as we speak.

I hate to be the one to point out some negatives, but I will say that Irwin did things that were not only dangerous, but needlessly dangerous, like the silly event last year where he was holding his infant son in his arms close enough for a croc to grab Irwin (and the infant) if he'd slipped or been distracted. It's one thing to put yourself in harm's way, but to do this to an infant?

His "story" at the time was that he wanted to acclimate his son to seeing crocs up close and personal, but this is obviously BS since an infant that young cannot see more than blurry shapes beyond about 3 feet. The real reason, obvious to anyone, was that he wanted the publicity for his endless array of enterprises.

Irwin became a rich man from his shows and other related merchanidising, but invested his money in the purchase of land (owned in his own name, rather than in a non-profit or trust) and in expansion of the Australia Zoo (which is not really a zoo, but a privately held, for profit entertainment complex like Sea World).

Many conservationists have criticized him for his refusal to be associated with broader environmental concerns or issues (he famously said that cattle-grazing could not hurt or damage Austrialia's land), caring only about those animals that could be used to take dollars from tourists. He also got into trouble for interacting with Antarctic wildlife while making a movie there - apparently violating any number of international agreements on Antarctic wildlife.

I don't know the man, so I don't personally know how much of his reputation was deserved or not, but he was certainly no saint. Whether or not he was committed to conservation and wildlife, he certainly was a premier showman. I feel badly for his wife and children, but Irwin willingly took on dangerous risks for the sake of self-promotion and money - he know exactly what he was getting into. And if one has to die, I suppose that dying doing the thing you love most is not a bad way to go.

Yes,my family will greatly miss Steve. Our hearts go to Terry, the kids, and the rest of the family and staff at the Zoo.I have a big fear of snakes and often told my hubby that I would Love to meet Steve, because I'm sure he would be the only person on this planet to rid me of my fear of snakes! Now I guess I'll do it myself and do it in his honor. It's not much but He so loved the animals, and I think he would be glad that I'm trying to over come my fears. We will all remember the man, and what he started with much love and saddness. We truely lost a Good Man when we lost our "Croc Hunter".

I certainly will. I didn't watch his show very often, but when I did, I actually learned something. He was a great, happy man that very muched loved what he did and was always trying to advocate animal and environmental rights. Plus, his purpose was make people realize that animals are not some rabid, blood-thirsty creatures and won't just simply attack people because they feel like it. He was certainly a man to admire. He will be greatly missed.

Just a thought, why is it that people, myself included, only truly appreciate the people around them once they're gone?

Yes, I will miss him very much. I really feel for his wife and kids, they are so young! I know they have a lot of great friends, though, so that will help. I'm just praying that his family will remember all the good times and keep him alive in their hearts.

I will miss him very much. His show was the only one on Animal Planet that I enjoyed watching. I think he still had a lot to offer the world. It just seems like he was taken too soon. My kids just loved him and they are very sad his is gone. I am terribly sad for his family.

Yes I will miss him very much. He was an amazing environmentalist and animal lover. He always made me laugh when I watched Croc Files with my daughter. It is a shame and I hope that his family is handling it well. I know how hard it is to lose someone you love. My condolances go out to all his family.

Yes, I am so saddened by his death. I'm kind of surprised that I am so sad - I mean, I liked him but I wasn't a huge fan and probably hadn't watched his show in years. But I know that I will remember him for many years to come.

I will also miss him. It's kind of sad that he was spending most of his time with dangerous crocodiles but it's because of a dangerous fish, that he is dead. I think he would have preferred death by a crocodile as crocodiles was something that he loved and that he risked his life for.

I will definitely miss watching his shows on Saturday morning with my daughter. He made learning about reptiles and other animals fun! I'm not singing sad songs and crying though.I did however cry for his wife and kids when I heard about his death. I feel sorry for them. I will definitely pray for them this week.
