Women should get part from the parental property or not?

This appears to be a big issue in the news today in India. Women there had no right to property of their parents upon their parents death. The males took equal shares with the women getting none.

It is know as the Hindu succession bill No. 2004

I think it is appalling that the law was set up to favor the males in the first place. This bill passage is long overdue.
