Some women do lose some weight at the beginning of their pregnancy, and this is not a cause for concern. However, if the weight loss continues well into your pregnancy, you should talk to your doctor about your concern and the well-being of your unborn child.

That happened to me also with both of my pregnancies. In my case it was because I couldn't stand the smell of most foods. The smell gave me gagging reflex. I remember with the pregnancy of my youngest all I could eat was cocoa pebbles cereal and elio's pizza. I would cook for my husband and older son but I wouldn't eat it 'cause it was nasty to me to smell it let alone eat it. I went to my doctor 'cause I too lost weight instead of gain and I was told not to worry about it. That as long as I wasn't terribly malnourished my baby would do fine. The doctor said that that baby would get nutrients from nutrients stored in my body. The doctor also suggested that I eat peanut butter sandwiches 'cause peanut butter has alot of protein since I wasn't eating meats. So that's what I did, I added peanut butter sandwiches with a glass of milk to my menu of cocoa pebbles and elio's pizza. I live in the states and have always been treated here for my pregnancies and they never seemed worried. They said that I should worry only if I was far along in the pregnancy and not able to keep any food down, then that would become a problem. Usually around the fifth month was when I would start gaining some weight because I was able to tolerate food better.
Just make sure you take your vitamins and folic acid and eat things that you don't get disgusted with. Goodluck!!

I lost 15 pounds in the first 4 months, and then my weight plateaued for two months, but I had terrible morning sickness, so bad that I eventually quit my job, and my doctor wasn't too worried, but they did say that if it continued to drop, then they might have to take measures against it, like a hospital stay or bed rest or something.
Is there maybe another doctor that you could see, just for a second opinion?
My aunt was pregnant while she was with her husband who was stationed in Iceland, and she began having complications, and ended up having to come back to the states because the doctors in that area weren't equipped to handle it.
Most likely, you'll stop loosing, and then a month or so after that, you'll gain like crazy!
Good luck, and congratulations on the baby!

I've heard that losing a bit of weight early in a pregnancy could be considered normal, but all of my kids are much too old for me to remember that far back...

I would go with your states doctor. If you are eating and not sick, that sound like a red flag to me. Has he given you any advice? Maybe you could go to another German OB for a second opinion. If you are loosing weight like that, something could be wrong with the baby and it's taking too much nourishment from you. Have you had any utrasounds? Is the baby doing okay?
Good luck!!

Funny thing is, some women eat much better while pregnant than they ever did beforehand. They lose fat because they're actually getting healthier. If you're a recovering "junkfood-aholic", and suddenly start eating your veggies and protein, yeah, you probably will lose some weight. And while you may not be yacking your guts up all the time from morning sickness, you may have a loss of appetite (happened to me) that "helps" you to lose even more weight. Just be careful...

Some woman do lose weight but you should only gain around 35 lbs during your whole pregnancy. As long as you are taking your prenatal vitamins and eating the proper foods and your not over dueing it I would not worry. Worrying is not good for you or your baby?

I lost weight early in my pregnancy because I was eating ultra-healthy, no junk, and exercising more.

I lost weight at first with all of mine. Normally it just means your body is using up those calories. Sometimes it means you are not eating enough, but unless you restricting yourself, it is probably not that. For me, it was because my sweet tooth totally disappeared, and ALL I wanted was veggies, and healthy stuff. I ended up gaining MORE than I was supposed to, though, because after the first trimester all I wanted was fried food, cheese, and steak!
