I guess we all figured this would be the way he would go (really...) - but then he went doing what he loved. I've never really been a fan but have since found out he did so much for the Australian environment and ecology. Apparently he was much more revered overseas than here. Bit sad really...

Like him or hate him, Steve Irwin was exactly like his larger than life persona in real life. None of it was an act. He really was that passionate about everything. He was generally a very nice bloke who cared a lot for conservation. Most of all though, he was a family man who loved his wife and kids as well as his parents. There was a lot of people saying real nasty things about him on the net which confuses me as to why anyone would take the time and energy to bag out a dead bloke but regardless of what anyone thinks, those kids and his wife are missing their favourite fella. I am Australian and was sometimes cringing when watching him, thinking that the world thought we were all like that you know? But... i gotta say that he was genuine, friendly, passionate and will be sorely missed. Being killed by a sting ray was really a freak accident in that he would've survived had it not got him in the heart. Really a million to one shot so just shows you, when your numbers up, its up.

It was a given he would die from a wild animal. When you play with fire, sometimes you get burned. He often said that he was in harms way for many of his tapings of his show. But it was his choice and certainly what he would have wanted to do. Maybe not dying, of course.. but he has had several close calls all of his life with wild anumals from all over the world. I say he was a crazy guy, but he was also very passionate about what he did, and I have to say he has certainly accomplished the goal of bringing better understanding and awareness of wildlife.

Yeah its a shame because if he was going to go he should have been eaten by an Alligator, kind of like Tristan (Brad Pitt) ended up getting killed by that old Bear at the end of Legends of the Fall. It just would have been a fitting end.

Steve was always going to die at the hands of some wild animal, and probably would have wanted it that way. But this happened way too early, and way too suddenly for a lot of Aussies. great ambassador, great Australian, all round top bloke. RIP.

Well im not surprised by his death, but im not sure i really knew how i thought he would die. I mean the stingray attack was unprovoked, whereis most ppl thought that it was. I have yet to find out anywho, the footage from the documentary he was shooting at the time of his death is being shown on tv tomorrow night....i dont know if they will cut anything out of it or not seeing his wife Terry has yet to approve its release.

Well, if you are going to go - it might as well be doing something you love. And he loved what he was doing. Poor Guy - God must have needed a Zoolologist

yes...but it doesn't make it any less sad. I feel so bad for his wife and children. His youngest, Bob, will probably not remember his father at all. How sad.
