It will not be necessary for you to be talkative in order to get along with you roommate or anyone else. If you don't like to speak much, learn how to be the best listener on campus. You'll have just as many friends as any chatterbox there.
Good luck! Have fun - but study hard.

Find out what the other is interested in and see if you can relate. Just get to know people ask them question like with homework or term papers see if they have suggestions, or like where's the best place to hang out, best restaurant around town, or best places to go and see if you have never been there before. We are all human. Also be yourself don't pretend to be something your not.

Have a huge toga party without informing your room mate. That should make a name for yourself. Good luck...and keep off the books.

Drink constantly, that should cure you shyness. Also, if you can get your hands on a supply, I've noticed the drug-dealing students are always the most popular...

you will have to start talking more. especially with a roommate. if u dont it can turn ugly when you and your roommate start to disagree. u have to talk so u can set the boundaries. also the people in college tend to be more friendly in my opinion. so get the mouth moving, make convo.
